Cheese steak Egg Rolls

This Egg Rolls recipe is sure to please the whole family! It's a different take on the classic recipe. The decadent cheese sauce and our Veggie mince: it's a very tasty combination!

Ingredients

  • For the cheese sauce:
  • 1 cup milk (unsweetened vegetable or regular)
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 1 tbsp. tapioca flour
  • 3 tbsp. baking powder
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • For Egg Rolls mix:
  • 3 pouches of Veggie Mince So Veggie "So Wise!"*
  • 1 medium green pepper
  • ½ white onion
  • For the meat broth*:
  • ½ tbsp. tamari or salt-reduced soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp. mushroom powder *optional, but recommended
  • 3 tbsp. vegetarian beef-style broth (or mix 3 tbsp. water with 1 tbsp. vegetarian beef-style broth powder)
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • ½ tsp. onion powder
  • ½ tsp. paprika
  • 1 tsp. cornstarch
  • Pepper to taste
  • 1 pinch salt
  • Notes: *If you don't have one of the broth ingredients, simply substitute or omit it. This is an optional step, but recommended to give the Egg Rolls even more flavor! *You can always fry the Egg Rolls if you don't have an air fryer, or bake them in the oven. *If you want to make a smaller batch, you can always halve the ingredients. Otherwise, this recipe freezes very well.

Recipe

1. Cut onions and peppers into very small cubes. Reserve.

2. Prepare the cheese sauce. Add the vegetable milk, salt and nutritional yeast to a saucepan and bring to the boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat slightly and add grated cheese. Stir with a whisk until well melted. Once the cheese has melted, add the tapioca flour and stir continuously until the sauce thickens and is smooth.

3. Prepare the broth for the meat by mixing all the ingredients together. Reserve.

4. Grill the onions and peppers in a frying pan until tender, but still a little crunchy.

5. Once tender, add the Veggie Mince, then grill for about 2 minutes.

6. Add the broth for the meat to the pan, stir well and cook during 2 minutes.

7. To assemble the Egg Rolls, add about 1 tablespoon of the cheese sauce and 1 ½ to 2 tablespoons of the ground meatless mixture.

8. Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees.

9. Coat the Egg Rolls with a little oil and cook in the air fryer for about 12 minutes, turning them halfway through cooking. *
